Townsend Zwart, Ph.D.

Townsend joined Mevion in 2005 and was instrumental in the design and development of the superconducting synchrocyclotron. He holds several patents in subjects related to the synchrocyclotron and pencil beam scanning. Prior to his work at Mevion he was employed for ten years at MIT as a Research Scientist and Controls Group Leader where he contributed to the development of multiple accelerator subsystems including a 200 m 1 GeV electron storage ring, a photocathode laser driven polarized electron source and a distributed controls system.
Townsend holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Dartmouth College and a Ph.D. from Boston University in Applied Physics with a concentration on Accelerator Systems.
